Handmade Cards by Head Start Kids
Nov 13th
This Friday at the “In Your Dreams” Show, we will be selling handcrafted cards made by children at the Head Start McGriff Street Center. Proceeds from the sale of these cards will help fund the Head Start Arts Program that focuses on music, dance, reading, and art education. These children are between the ages of 3½ -5 years old and qualify to receive aid because of their family’s financial situation. Head Start is committed to the empowerment of children with diverse backgrounds, families and staff through the support of our community for personal growth and development that will lead to a successful future.
These one-of-a-kind cards will be for sale on November 18th from 6pm-8pm at the Art Lair for only $2 each! They all have beautifully painted artwork by children at Head Start on the front and are blank on the inside. So they are great for any occasion! There are only a limited number of them for sale and each one is unique. Come out to buy these amazing cards and help support the education of these young artists.

Graffiti Art at the NWFLAA
Nov 7th
Thanks to all who came out to the Graffiti Show and demo in October. The graffiti demo, by DVK’s Zink and Smerk One, was an inspiring art piece to witness in action. The finished piece is located behind Closet Swap in downtown FWB for those who would like to check it out. A special thanks goes out to these graff writers (artists) for meeting with our members and for agreeing to be the judges for our Graffiti Show. They commented that, “Graffiti isn’t always about being the best painter or artist, but more about ‘representing’ who you are and what you believe in.” Congrats to Helen Harris for taking 1st place with her own “Personal Graffiti.” They also awarded Mark Bonner with 2nd place for executing beautiful graffiti techniques in his piece titled “Kate.” The Graffiti Show will be displayed in the Art Lair for one more week, so we welcome those of you who missed the show to come by and check out artwork by our members along with a collection of works by artists in DVK.

Live Graffiti Demo in Downtown FWB
Oct 8th
“Graffiti” is a term originally referring to the inscriptions and markings found on the walls of ruins from ancient civilizations such as in Greece and Rome, on the walls of the Great Pyramids of Egypt, and spanning as far back to the caves of Lascaux, France. Although in the present day, graffiti has raised controversy in the public eye, it is an art form that has been practiced throughout history.
This month we are taking a deeper look into this worldwide art form. On Oct 14th, we will have our “Graffiti Show” at the Art Lair. The reception is from 6pm-8pm and it will feature graffiti inspired artwork from our members. It is free and open to the public, so please come out and support our artists.
For our members meeting on Oct 13th, 2 local graff writers, Zink and Smerk One from DVK* have permission to do a live graffiti demo in downtown FWB. They will also have some of their own graffiti inspired artwork on display. Our members meeting (which is open to members and non-members) is from 6pm-8pm and we will meet at the Art Lair. It is $5 and is catered by Lenny’s Sub Shop. Please RSVP via Facebook or by emailing nwflaa@gmail.com if you wish to attend.
The artists will begin painting at 3pm if anyone would like to view their painting from start to finish. Photographers and videographers are welcome and encouraged to come by throughout the process to record the artists in action.
