Video Rewind Show-Blast from the Past!

The Video Rewind Show brought some of us back to our younger days when our lives consisted of video games and junk food. Pizza, chips, cookies, candy… We had the works! A special thanks goes out to the members that brought some of our favorite goodies to share.

Our judge for the show was
Brandon Pence, a well known graphic artist in our art community. Brandon awarded Daniel Kocher 1st place for his piece titled “PM-OD.” Daniel, who also took 1st place in our last show, has been awarded for his whimsical, stylistic illustrations painted in vivid colors.

The night ended with the crafting of perler beads which were constructed into 8-bit video game characters and sprites. Fun was definitely had by all who attended. Who knows what’s in store for the shows in 2012. I hope to see you at the next one!

Handmade Cards by Head Start Kids

This Friday at the “In Your Dreams” Show, we will be selling handcrafted cards made by children at the Head Start McGriff Street Center. Proceeds from the sale of these cards will help fund the Head Start Arts Program that focuses on music, dance, reading, and art education. These children are between the ages of 3½ -5 years old and qualify to receive aid because of their family’s financial situation. Head Start is committed to the empowerment of children with diverse backgrounds, families and staff through the support of our community for personal growth and development that will lead to a successful future.

These one-of-a-kind cards will be for sale on November 18th from 6pm-8pm at the Art Lair for only $2 each! They all have beautifully painted artwork by children at Head Start on the front and are blank on the inside. So they are great for any occasion! There are only a limited number of them for sale and each one is unique. Come out to buy these amazing cards and help support the education of these young artists.

Graffiti Art at the NWFLAA

Thanks to all who came out to the Graffiti Show and demo in October. The graffiti demo, by DVK’s Zink and Smerk One, was an inspiring art piece to witness in action. The finished piece is located behind Closet Swap in downtown FWB for those who would like to check it out. A special thanks goes out to these graff writers (artists) for meeting with our members and for agreeing to be the judges for our Graffiti Show.  They commented that, “Graffiti isn’t always about being the best painter or artist, but more about ‘representing’ who you are and what you believe in.” Congrats to Helen Harris for taking 1st place with her own “Personal Graffiti.” They also awarded Mark Bonner with 2nd place for executing beautiful graffiti techniques in his piece titled “Kate.” The Graffiti Show will be displayed in the Art Lair for one more week, so we welcome those of you who missed the show to come by and check out artwork by our members along with a collection of works by artists in DVK.
