Photoshop – Color Popping a BW Image
The following photoshop tutorial was done by Matt Edmundson. It’s a cool but easy way to add color to a black and white photo. In this tutorial, the photo was originally color and then converted to black and white. Enjoy!

A much faster way to achieve this effect on this particular picture would be to use Select->Color Range on that bright red color.
Given that is the only pure red in the image, it will make a selection around that red color, then you simply add a mask.
No manual brushing or painting, as in this tutorial.
The down fall is if there was another bright red color, you would have to paint out what you don’t want (as in this video).
However in this specific case it could be done in seconds without manual brushing.

That’s true. But if you wanted to pop several different colors, say the red of the roses and the green of the stems, then I think this tutorial would be the way to go.

Indeed it would be.
